Water is absorbed by plants from the soil, through a process called Osmosis.

Cells in the several root hairs of plants, having a large collective surface area help in this process. The water thus absorbed through roots are carried to the rest of the plant parts, where it is used in several processes like Photosynthesis etc.

Only soluble minerals (those which dissolve in water) are absorbed by plant roots.
