When ferrous sulphate crystals are strongly heated, they lose their water of crystallization.
2FeSO4.7H2O -----> 2FeSO4 + 7H2O
On further heating this ferrous sulphate, it gets converted into brown powder like substance Fe2O3. Also, SO2 and SO3 are also released.
2FeSO4----> Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
Ferrous sulphate is also called green vitriol because of its green colour.
