All the alkali metals react with water to produce elementary hydrogen and the corresponding alkali hydroxides. The reactivity increases with increasing periodic number....

Hell... o!!

when sodium is added to water it forms NaOH + H2 librate.

As you know that Sodium has a valency 1 i. e, it can give 1 elecron to another atom to attain nearest nobel gas structure!
Hydroxide needs 1 electron to complete it duet so it forms NaOH and 2 atoms of hydrogen will librate
