when sodium is added to water it forms NaOH + H2 librate.
As you know that Sodium has a valency 1 i. e, it can give 1 elecron to another atom to attain nearest nobel gas structure!
Hydroxide needs 1 electron to complete it duet so it forms NaOH and 2 atoms of hydrogen will librate
