Hey,

Question :-

Name the quadrants in which the following points lie

1. (3,0)

2. (-9,-3)

3. (3,-5)

4. (-3,-1)

Solution :-

1. (3,0) lies on the positive x - axis

2. (-9,-3) lies in quadrant 3

3. (3,-5) lies in the quadrant 4

4. (-3,-1) lies in the quadrant 3

Further Information :-

1. The axes divide the plane into four parts.

2. These four parts are called quadrants.

3. So, the plane consists of axes and quadrants.

4. The plane is called the cartesian plane or the coordinate plane or the XY plane.

5. These axes are called the coordinates axes.

6. The quadrant is 1/4 part of the plane divided by coordinates axes.

7. In the first quadrant both coordinates i.e. abscissa and ordinate of the point are positive. (+,+)

8. In the second quadrant for the point abscissa is negative and ordinate is positive. (-,+)

9. In the third quadrant for the point both abscissa and ordinate are negative. (+,-)

10. In the fourth quadrant for the point the abscissa is positive and ordinate is negative. (-,-)

Hope That Helps :)
