Question:-

Name the Rajput Princess who became a Bhakti Preacher.

Answer:-

The word " Bhakti " means devotion to God. The Bhakti cult , a reform movement in Hinduism, laid emphasis on devotion to God. It originated in the 9th century AD in South India, when Shankaracharya brought about a revival in Hinduism. The Bhakti movement in South India was spearheaded by Ramanujacharya and Madhavacharya.

Mirabai was the Rajput Princess who became a Bhakti Preacher.

She married into the ruling family of Mewar. She was a devotee of Lord Krishna since childhood and she continued to devote her whole life to the Lord's worship even after her marriage. Her message was :-

" There is but one means to experience Lord's Divine Presence - that is Bhakti."

Extra Information:-

Important features of the Bhakti Cult:

1. They preached that God is One and must be worshipped with love and devotion.

2. One can attain salvation through Bhakti or devotion to God.

3. All men are equal before God and the dignity of man depends on his actions and not on the privileges of birth.

4. They emphasised the need for a Guru to lead a person to the realisation of God.

5. Religious rites, rituals and ceremonies are futile and man can reach God only through absolute surrender to Him.
