Aldehydes when treated with Ni/H2, they get reduced to corresponding alcohols. This reaction is called hydrogenation reaction (addition of hydrogen).

Formaldehyde on reduction in presence of Ni/H2, gives methyl alcohol.

H-CHO + H2 --> CH3-OH
