Respiratory Pigment is a pigment which helps to increase the oxygen carrying capacity for the circulatory system (blood).

Examples of respiratory pigments are hemoglobin . hemocyanin etc 

The respiratory pigment present in human beings is Hemoglobin.
 
~Hemoglobin  is a red pigment present in the blood.

~It increases the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood.

~It binds with oxygen and forms oxyhemoglobin  which then supplies oxygen to cells.

~It also binds with carbon dioxide and forms carbaminohemoglobin and carries carbon dioxide to the alveoli.

Hence it is needed.
