The Godavari river is having the second largest river basin in India.

Godavari is a peninsular river.

It is commonly known as Dakshin Ganga.

The reason is very clear because the Ganga river is having the largest river basin in India but it is a north Indian river.

While the Godavari river is a southern river. And south in Hindi stands for "Dakshin".

That's why it is known as Dakshin Ganga.
