Aryabhata. It was the country's first indigenously-built satellite that was launched on 19 April, 1975 by the Soviet Union.
It was a tribute to the famous mathematician, Aryabhata. Again, in 1980, Rohini was the first satellite that was placed in the orbit with the help of an Indian-made launch vehicle, SLV-3.
ISRO also developed two rockets - the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) to put satellites into the geostationary orbits.
