Answer:

Sir Isaac Newton.

Explanation:

In earlier times it was believed that sunlight was colourless. But Sir Isaac Newton (1643-1727) was the first person who suggested and verified with his prism experiment.

Experiment

Sir Isaac Newton kept a prism in the sunlight such that light rays fell on one of the refracting surfaces of the prism. He also placed a screen near the other refracting surface and obtained a proper band of seven colours on the screen. From this experiment Newton concluded that white light consists of seven colours.

Do you Know?

Do you know that the band of seven colours is called as VIBGYOR.

Do you know that the sun appears to be red in colour during sunrise and sunset because light travels the maximum distance through the atmosphere to reach the observer. As a result of scattering, the light loses colours with shorter wavelengths. Therefore, only orange and red colour reach us and the sun appears to be red in colour.
