Cell theory was eventually formulated in 1839. This is usually credited to Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann. However, many other scientists like Rudolf Virchow contributed to the theory.

There are three postulates of cell theory. The first two points were given be Schwann and schleiden and the last one was given by Redolf Virchow.Following are these points:

1- All the living organisms are composed of one or more cells.

2- Cell is a basic structural and functional unit of our life.

3- All cells arive from the division of pre-existing cells.
