The Agricultural sector is the largest employer in India.

It employs about 51% of the Indian labor but contributes only a quarter of the national gdp because of the low productivity of the agricultural sector, which is due to obsolete machines, small size of land holdings, lack of knowledge of modern technology and defective system of finance for the farmers.
