Term parenchyma is made up of two Greek words para- beside + en- chain -to pour , i.e.., some semi liquid substance poured beside other solid tissue (ancient concept of parenchyma)
The the parenchymatous cells are isodiametric and thin wall which may be oval sperical or polygon in the shape with well developed intercellular spaces.
fuctions of parenchyma
1. The main function is storage of food .
2. In fleshy stems and leave , these cell act as water storage tissue
3. In some cases the parenchyma cell developed the capacity of cell division or become cambium like ,e.g, cork cambium and ,root cambium .
There is two types of parenchyma
1. chlorenchyma
2. aerenchyma

chlorenchyma : In hydrophyte , the parenchyma develop air sapces and with air cavities .

aerenchyma: when the chloroplast are developed in the parenchyma cells .
