A mixture of sulphur and carbon can be separated by the " solvent extraction method " . Carbon disulphide or carbon tetrachloride is used as a solvent. The sulphur component gets dissolved in solvent and undissolved carbon is separated by filtration.

NOTE:- Carbon is insoluble in carbon disulphide solution. Whereas, Sulphur is soluble in it.
