Raja Raja Chola built the Sivaganga Tank. The main sources which give us information about the Cholas are the inscriptions on the walls of temples and on copperplates, religious texts, the ancient Tamil Sangam literature and the oral traditions. The Periplus of the Erythraean Sea, the Pillars of Ashoka and Mahavamsa which is a Buddhist text, also tell about the Cholas.
