BLASTOCYST STAGE

Zona pellucida needs to be degenerated to make way for the expanding cells of blastocyst. Due to this, zona hatching becomes convenient as zona pellucida subsequently gets replaced by trophoblastic cells lying under it.

Removal of zona pellucida facilitates better cell-to-cell interaction and anchoring of embryo.
