A centriole is a barrel shaped cell structure made predominantly out of a protein called tubulin that is found in most eukaryotic cells. A related match of centrioles, encompassed by an ill defined mass of thick material, called the pericentriolar material, makes up a compound structure called a centrosome.

The legitimate introduction of cilia through centriole situating toward the back of embryonic hub cells is basic for building up left–right asymmetry amid mammalian development.

During digestion of a meal, nutrients (including dietary sugars) are primarily absorbed by epithelium of the small intestine. The tissue transfers these nutrients immediately to the venous circulation (mesententeric veins) that drains blood from the small bowel. These veins then drain into the portal vein which brings the nutrients to the liver for first pass processing.

The mesenteric veins and the hepatic portal vein comprise the hepatic venous portal system. It is these vessels that have the greatest blood glucose levels shortly following a meal until that sugar is diffused throughout systemic circulation post-hepatically.
