Carmel Senior Secondary School, Port Blair was started on 16th July 1968 by Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel, an indigenous educational congregation of wide and long experience. It is a Christian School established by the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society in the Roman Catholic Church. The school is under the religious jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Port Blair.

The School aims at the education of the Catholic Community around and extends its service to the members of the other communities to the extent possible. The school stands for academic excellence, development of skills and character formation, based on the love of God and the service of human kind, as modelled in Jesus Christ with a view to having citizens remarkable for their all round development and sincere commitment to God and Country.

The School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (New Delhi) and empowered by the body to prepare students for the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE-X) and All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (AISSCE-XII). The first batch of Class XII appeared for AISSCE in March 2002 with a single stream of Science. The medium of instruction is English with Hindi as second language. The long cherished dream of having a separate wing for the Pre-Primary was actualised on 5th July 2003. Glory to God for enabling Carmel to become a full fledged school from Nursery to Class XII.
