Ferrous sulphate crystals are green in colour. On heating, it decomposes to give ferric oxide, sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide. Following is the reaction that occurs:

2FeSO4---------> Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3

The residue that is formed is nothing ferric oxide. It is reddish brown in colour.
