Heating ferrous sulphate in a test tube, following reaction will takes place:
FeSO₄.7H₂O ------>FeSO₄ + 7H₂O
2FeSO₄---->Fe₂O₃ + SO₂ +SO₃
Both SO₂ that is sulfur dioxide and SO₃ that is sulfur trioxide, are gases that are colorless and evolved out.
Only Fe₂O₃, that is ferric oxide which is reddish brown in color remained in the teat tube.
So the answer is Fe₂O₃, that is ferric oxide which is reddish brown in color remain in a test tube after heating ferrous sulfate.
