Three major divisions of the Himalayas from the north to the South include:

 1.The Great or Inner Himalayas.It is the highest range of the Himalayas.Mount Everest and some other tallest peaks are found here.The average height of it is about 6000 m.

 2.The lesser Himalayas or Himachal. Its average height is about 3600 m to 4600 m.It consists of deep gorges formed by swift owing streams.It is parallel to the Shiwaliks in the south and great Himalayas to the north. Pir Pinjal is the most important range which lies in Kashmir.

3.The Shiwaliks. It is the sub Himalayan range known as Manak Parbat in ancient times.Its average height is 1501m  to 2001 m.
