The three majaor type of cells associated with gastric glands are :

1. Zymogenic

2. Parietal

3. Mucous neck cells

At the base of the gland are the Zymogenic (chief) cells, which are thought to produce the enzymes pepsin and rennin( Pepsin digests protein and rennin curdles milk). Parietal, or oxyntic, cells occur throughout the length of the gland and are responsible for the prouduction of hydrochloric acid , which is necessary to activate the other enzymes. The purpose of mucous neck

cells is to secrete mucus

\bigstar Mucus neck cell which secrete mucus along bicarbonates it helps in lubrication and protection of the mucosal epithelium form excoriation by highly Concentrated HCL.

\bigstar Peptic cell (or) Chief cell secretes proenzyme pepsinogen. If is activated by HCl. Pepsin helps in protein digestion.

\bigstar Parietal (or) oxyntic cell secrete HCl that helps in maintaing acidic pH(1.8) and also activation of pepsiogen into pepsin. It also secretes intrinsic factor essential for absorption of vit - B 12
