the parotid, the submandibular, and the sublingual glands are the three pairs of salivary gland
parotid:-
secretes alpha-amylase (also known as ptyalin).
submandibular:-
secrete α-amylase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes α-1,4-glycosidic linkages in starch.
sublingual:-
Saliva contains the enzyme amylase, which hydrolyses starch into maltose and dextrin. As a result, saliva allows digestion to occur before the food reaches the stomach.
If saliva is not secreated into the oral cavity then
it can affect taste, make chewing and swallowing more difficult, and increase the risk for cavities, tooth loss, and infections in the mouth.
