Punjab plains are usually formed by River Indus and its tributaries.

Brahmaputra plains are formed by the deposits of the Brahmaputra river valley while the Ganga plains stretches between Ghaggar and Teesta rivers mainly composed of alluvial soil.

1) Bhabar - its a narrow belt of 8-10 km in width. Parallel to the slope of Shiwalik

2) Tarai - South of bhabar belt about 10-20km in width. Wet, swampy and marshy region is created.

3 Alluvial Plain; further divided into

i) Khadar - New, young deposits of flood plains. it is renewed every year.

ii) Bhangar - Plain with older alluvium.Lie above flood plains.
