The three sections are:
1) Bhabar - its a narrow belt of 8-10 km in width. Parallel to the slope of Shiwalik
2) Tarai - South of bhabar belt about 10-20km in width. Wet, swampy and marshy region is created.
3 Alluvial Plain; further divided into
i) Khadar - New, young deposits of flood plains. it is renewed every year.
ii) Bhangar - Plain with older alluvium.Lie above flood plains.
