Collenchyma (a permanent tissue) is responsible for flexibility in plants.
We can differentiate from other by following:
Parenchyma:
i) It is oval or spherical in shape.
ii) Cell wall is thin.
iii) Inter-cellular space is present.
iv) It is a living cell.
Collenchyma:
i) Pentagonal or hexagonal in shape.
ii) Cell walls are thickened at the corners.
iii) Inter-cellular space is less due to the thickening.
iv) It is a living cell.
Sclerenchyma:
i) Elongated or irregular in shape.
ii) Cell walls are highly thickened due to the deposition of additional substance called Lignin.
iii) Inter-cellular space is absent.
iv) It is a dead cell.
