The tripositive ion is Fe³+

- The electronic configuration of the ion is :

1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d5

- So,the total number of electrons present in that ion is :

= 2 + 2 + 6 + 2 + 6 + 5

= 23

- Now,the ion is tripositive which means it's base element lost three electrons to become this ion because positive ions become positive ions by losing electrons.

- So,the total number of electrons present in the base element of the given ion is :

= 23 + 3

= 26

- So,the atomic number or the electron number of the element is 26 and the element which has an atomic number of 26,is iron (Fe).

- So,the tripositive ion will be Fe³+.
