Mitochondria and chloroplasts are two cell organelles which are known to contain their own DNA.
They both are double membrane bound organelle found in the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell (chloroplast is found only in the cytoplasm of green plants cells).
They are also known as semi-autonomous organelles as they contain their own DNA, RNA and ribosome (70S) i.e. all the essential elements required for replication and synthesis of required proteins and enzymes. However, raw material required for their existence and functioning are provided by the cell. In addition, replication is often controlled by the chromosomal DNA.
