The education during the colonial period was really different from the ones before the British ruled . There where two groups of educationists :

  • Orientalists
  • Anglicists

  • Orientalists where the group of education is who wanted Western science and literature to be imparted but with respect to traditional learning through Sanskrit , Persian and Arabic .

  • Sir William Jones set up ASIATIC SOCIETY OF BENGAL in 1784 . He was a very knowledgeable person who learnt Latin , Greek , French, English Arabic, Persian and Sanskrit .

  • Henry Thomas Colebrooke and Nathaniel translated Sanskrit and Persian works into English .

  • They introduced Calcutta Madrasa and also a Sanskrit college in Varanasi .
