The two of islands in India on the basis of their location are ,

1) Islands of Bay of Bengal- islands located here are mostly volcanic in origin. They rise as mountains from the floor of the sea and are distributed irregularly with heights ranging from 400-500 meters. Some islands are surrounded by corals but majority of them are volcanic. The most important group of islands are the Andaman and Nicobar islands. They consist of around 3000 islands with hard and rocky land and less density of population.

2) Islands of Arabian sea- located off the Malabar Coast of Kerala; they consist majorly of Lakshadweep islands that are coral in origin formed from millions of corals. They have very fertile soil. They are much closer to the mainland compared to the islands of Bay of Bengal. Farming is practised due to the land being fertile and has high density of population on around 30 islands that comprise these island groups.
