The layers of pollen grain are :
- Exine (Outermost)
- Intine (innermost)
Let's have a look at each one of them one by one :
Exine
- It is made up of of the toughest substance known as sporopollenin that provides it the tendency for resistance against acid and other harsh and harmful conditions.
- Just because of this layer the pollen grain can be preserved for longer times
- It is heart because it performs the basic function of protection.
Intine
- This is the innermost layer and it is made up of cellulose.
- It also contains pectin deposition.
- It comes out through the germ pore.
Note :
Remember that , at the site of germpore sporopollenin is absent. Because it is the site from where actually the pollen tube comes out during the pollination phenomena.
