The layers of pollen grain are :

  • Exine (Outermost)
  • Intine (innermost)

Let's have a look at each one of them one by one :

Exine

  • It is made up of of the toughest substance known as sporopollenin that provides it the tendency for resistance against acid and other harsh and harmful conditions.
  • Just because of this layer the pollen grain can be preserved for longer times
  • It is heart because it performs the basic function of protection.

Intine

  • This is the innermost layer and it is made up of cellulose.
  • It also contains pectin deposition.
  • It comes out through the germ pore.

Note :

Remember that , at the site of germpore sporopollenin is absent. Because it is the site from where actually the pollen tube comes out during the pollination phenomena.
