The two major cities each in the three river basins in the northern plains are as follows;

Satluj Basin: “Amritsar and Ludhiana”. Sutlej River flows south-west along with its main auxiliary river Beas. It is found in the Indus River in Pakistan which ultimately flows in the Arabian Sea. The ferries of the river Sutlej are very fertile.

Ganga Basin: “Bihar and Kolkata”. The Ganges is the main river in the northern plains. The river originates from the glacier named “Gangotri in the Himalayas as Bhagirathi”. The Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers join the Bhagirathi from below the hills.

Brahmaputra basin: “Guwahati and Dibrugarh”. The Brahmaputra river rises in Tibet and enters India from the east. It flows through a narrow valley in Assam. Here, the river always flows during the rainy season. It get into Bangladesh and joins the river Padma.
