Ghiyasuddin Balban introduced the customs of Sijdah and Paibos (Zaminbos)

People criticized him for introducing these customs. They retorted that these customs were reserved for God and therefore they did not followed the customs.

Ghiyas-ud-din Balban, was a powerful ruler of the Slave Dynasty. He ruled from 1266 to 1286. Earlier, he had been a noble in the court of  Iltutmish and Nasir-ud-din Mahmud.

After becoming the ruler he wanted that the people should show due respect to the Sultan. So he introduced the Persian customs of salutation, known as sijdah and paibos or zaminbos.

People did not like that the Sultan should be raised to such great heights. They felt that only God should be shown so much respect and saluted in this way.
