Such as YouTube, which puts videos on the Trending page with little or less than 125K views. Why? Because it gains traction. Numbers are very important in any networking site. They help gather data and lets you analyse your followers and where you have influenced people the maximum in the chart.

Personal information such as username, password, address, place of work is collected by networking sites. They do that to make sure you are not a bot account and that you are a real person creating an account.
