In meiosis a single mother cell which gives rise two 4 offspring which are of different ploidy level from the parents.
In this cell division the chromosomes number is reduced so it us called reductional division.
The other one is mitosis in whih a single parent cell gives rise to two daughter cells. In this chromosomes number remains same so it is also called equational division.
