The corrosion of the iron is a type of oxidation reaction. Oxidation reactions are the reactions in which the substances combine with oxygen gas to form metal oxides.

Corrosion is the deterioration of metal due to presence of atmospheric oxygen and moisture. The metal surface reacts with atmospheric oxygen and moisture to form metal oxide.

Like iron react with atmospheric oxygen and moisture to form iron oxide that is called as corrosion.
