\text{Epithelial Tissue:} It is the simplest among the animal tissues . It is mainly a protective tissue of the animal body . The cells of this tissue are tightly packed and they form a continuous sheet . Cells of epithelium contain very little or no intercellular spaces . This tissue covers most organs and cavities within the body . Thr skin and lining of buccal cavity , blood vessels , alveoli and kidney tubules are made of epithelial tissue . There are five types of epithelial tissues . These are :

♦ Squamous Epithelium .

♦ Cuboidal Epithelium .

♦ Columnar Epithelium .

♦ Glandular Epithelium .

♦ Ciliated Epithelium .

Mainly , the answer to your question is : Squamous Epithelium. Let us discuss in brief about it :-

Squamous epithelium is made up of a thin, flat , irregula-shaped cells which fit together like floor tiles to form a conpact tissue. It is also known as \bold{tesselated} or \bold{pavement} epithelium .

It forms the delicate lining of cavities in the mouth , oesophagus , nose , pericardium , alveoli , etc , and of the blood vessels and covering of the tongue and skin .

It protects the underlying parts of the body from mechanical injury , entry of germs , chemicals and drying . It also forms a selectively permeable surface through which filtration occurs .
