Given: The points: A(-1,-2) B(1,0) C(-1,2) and D(-3,0)

To find: The quadrilateral formed?

Solution:

  • Now we have given four points A(-1,-2) B(1,0) C(-1,2) and D(-3,0)
  • So by distance formula, we have:

           distance of AB = √(1+1)² = (0+2)² = 2√2 cm

           distance of BC = √(-1-1)² = (2-0)² = 2√2 cm

  • Similarly CD = AD = 2√2 cm
  • So AB = BC = CD = AD = 2√2 cm
  • Now slope of AB = -1-1/ -2 = 1

           slope of BC = 2 / -1-1 = -1

  • So slope of AB x slope of BC = -1 x 1 = -1
  • So AB is perpendicular to BC as the product is negative.
  • So the quadrilateral formed is square.

Answer:

         The quadrilateral formed is square.
