Cellular respiration:

The cellular respiration is the process in which the food products break down into glucose. There are two types of respiration which are aerobic and anaerobic respiration.

A) Ethanol formation:

In alcoholic fermentation, the ethanol is produced as by-product. It is an anaerobic respiration which requires no oxygen.

\begin{array}{l}{C_{6} H_{12} O_{6}} \\ {\text {Glucose}}\end{array} \rightarrow \begin{array}{c}{2 C_{2} H_{5} O H} \\ {\text {Glucose}}\end{array} \rightarrow \begin{array}{l}{2 C O_{2}} \\ {\text {Glucose}}\end{array}

B) Water and carbon dioxide formation:

The glucose in presence of oxygen breaks down into carbon dioxide and water. It is an aerobic respiration which requires oxygen for the respiration process.

\begin{array}{l}{C_{6} H_{12} O_{6}} \\ {\text {Glucose}}\end{array} + \begin{array}{c}{6 O_{2}} \\ {O x y g e n}\end{array} \rightarrow \begin{array}{c}{6 C O_{2}} \\ {\text {Carbon dioxide}}\end{array} + \begin{array}{c}{6 H_{2} O} \\ {\text {Water}}\end{array}

C) Lactic acid formation:

The glucose is converted into lactic acid in the presence of adenosine triphosphate.

\begin{array}{c}{C_{6} H_{12} O_{6}} \\ {\text {Glucose}}\end{array} \xrightarrow { 2 A D P+2 P_{i} \rightarrow 2 A T P+2 H_{2} O } \begin{array}{l}{2 C_{3} H_{6} O_{3}} \\ {\text {Lactic acid}}\end{array}
