Radio waves are used by astronauts in the outer space.

- We know that the outer space is only made out void vacuum space with no medium of propagation.

- And,due to the absence of the medium of propagation, the sound waves cannot be used in the outer space.

- That's why radio waves are used which are actually electromagnetic waves. And we know that electromagnetic waves don't need any kind of medium of propagation.

For this reason it can be used in the vacuum of the outer space also.
