1. in combination two substance combine to form a new compound

2. a single compound splits up into two or more

3.more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal from its salt solution

4. two compounds react with exchange of ions to form two new compounds

5. i. oxidation

Explanation:

There are many reactions in chemistry. I will state some of them which i know

1. Combination reaction : The reaction in which two reactant react to form single product is known as Combination Reaction.

Ex. C + O2 => CO2

Description of Reaction above : When C (carbon) reacts with O2 (Oxygen gas) the compound so form is CO2 (Carbon Dioxide).

2. Displacement Reaction : The reaction in which less reactive ion is replaced with more reaction ion the reaction so called is Displacement reaction.

Ex. Zn + CuSO4 => ZnSO4 + Cu

Description of the above reaction : Zn (Zinc) is more reactive than Cu (Copper).

3. Decomposition reaction : The reaction in which One reactant gives 2 or more product are called as Decompositon reaction.

Ex. H2CO3 => H20 + CO2

Description of the above reaction : When H2CO3 (Carbonic acid) breaksdown it gives H2O(Water) and CO2(Carbon Dioxide).

4. Double Displacement reaction : The reaction in which both cation and anion exchange each other and precipitate is formed is known as double displacement reaction.

Ex. AgNO3 + NaCl => AgCl + NaNO3

Description of the above reaction : When AgNO3 (Silver Nitrate) reacts with NaCl (Sodium Chloride) then AgCl (Silver Chloride) and NaNO3 (Sodium Nitrate) is formed.

5. Substituition Reaction : The reaction in which particular group re replaced with any alkyl or aryl group the reaction so called is Substituition reaction.

Ex. R - H + X2 => R - X + HX.

Description of the above reaction : When an hydrogen of alkane is replaced with Halogens the reaction is R - H(Alkyl Hallide) along with HX(Hydrogen Hallide).

6. Addition reaction : The reaction in which addition of of molecules of small molecules into large are called Addition reaction

Ex. CH2=CH2 + H2 Pt/Pd/Ni

=====> CH3–CH3

Description of the above reaction :

When an Alkene reacts with H2(Hydrogen Gas) in the presence of Reney Nickel or Platin or palladium catalyst then Alkane is formed.

Here, the Alkene is Ethene or Ethylene or Eth-1-ane.

7. Esterification : The reaction in which Acid is heated with Alcohol and atleast one compound of Ester is formed the reaction so called is Esterification

Ex. CH3–C–OH + CH3–CH2–OH =>

||

O

CH3–C – O–CH2–CH3 + H20

||

O

Description of the above reaction : When Ethanoic Acid (Acetic Acid) reacts with Propanol the compound so formed is Ethyl Ethanoate.

There are many more reactions but it is enough basic reactions that one must know.
