• Alluvial Soils: These are formed by the deposition of sediments by rivers.
• Black Soils: These soils are made up of volcanic rocks and lava-flow.
• Red Soils: These are derived from weathering of ancient metamorphic rocks of Deccan Plateau.
• Laterite Soils: Laterite is a soil and rock type rich in iron and aluminium and is commonly considered to have formed in hot and wet tropical areas. Nearly alllaterites are of rusty-red coloration, because of high iron oxide content. They develop by intensive and prolonged weathering of the underlying parent rock.
• Mountain Soils: Mountain soil are mainly found on the hill slopes.These soils are formed due to mechanical withering caused by snow,rain,temperature variation,etc. These mountain soils are found in hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir,Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal pradesh.These soilsoccupy about 8% of the total land area of India.
• Desert Soils: a soil that develops under sparse shrub vegetation in warm to cool arid climates with a light-colored surface soilusually underlain by calcareous material and a hardpan layer.
