The long and unbranched extension of a neuron is said to be an axon.

The axons are long slender projections of nerve cells. They transfer action potentials away from the cellular bodies and they are called the afferent nerve fibers and they transfer the impulses along the periphery of the cellular body.

The axon is differed from the Dendron in several features such as the cellular function and the structure.
