The chemical name of common salt is sodium chloride and its chemical formula is NaCl.

Sodium Hydroxide
When electricity is passed through aqueous solution of sodium chloride, it decomposes to form sodium hydroxide.
In the electrolysis process, sodium hydroxide is formed near the cathode.
Bleaching Powder
When sodium chloride is subjected to electrolysis, during the process, in the anode, chlorine gas is liberated.
