1. Chloroplasts of the plant cells possess their own DNA. This DNA is responsible for the regreening capacity of the plant. The chloroplast DNA degrades at the early period of senescence. Hence, aged plants and leaves cannot regain their regreening capacity.  

2. Mitochondria of the cells also possess their own DNA. which also is included in the amount of total DNA of the cell. This mt-DNA is very important in synthesis of the enzymes which are responsible for the process of oxidative phosphorylation involved in the production of energy.
