The grain cultivation is a long term project which involves lot of efforts and money.
As compared to the grain activity, vegetable cultivation is easy and with least risk of the crop being destroyed. Moreover the plants themselves have some additional immunity to insect or virus attack. There are two vegetables which rarely get an insect or fungus attack. These are KARELA and METHI. Both are normally grown within about 110 to 120 days. These are very popular also. In addition, both have medicinal values. Such vegetables need adequate watering. It is possible to have at least three such crops per year or sometime it could be four.
Another vegetable (it is not actually vegetable but is a creep with useful leaf. This is PAAN which is used in as a after lunch or dinner item. The PAAN with addition of Kattha, Chuna (Lime), cardamom (Ilachi), Clove (LAONG), etc is very popular all over India. The PAAN is creeper rising up to two meters or so. This is continuous process. As some leaves are cut it grows again and again .
