Sulphuric and Nitric acids are present in rainwater which cause acid rain.As Taj Mahal is situated in Agra, the air here contains serious levels of sulphur and nitrogen oxides. This leads to acid rain. As Taj Mahal is made up of marble(calcium carbonate), the acid rain reacted with calcium carbonate thus

damaging the monument.
