Wool - They are obtained from Sheep, Goat, Rabbit, Camel etc. They are used for making clothes, warm clothes, blanket, carpet etc. Australia is the biggest producer of wool mainly obtained from Merino sheeps. There are a variety of wool produced by different animals like "Angoora" is obtained from rabbits, "Mohair" ans "Cashmere" is obtained from Goat. Clothes made by wools are very useful in winter season as they keep our body warm.

2. Slik - They are obtained from silk warm. These fibres are among most expensive fibre due to their premium quality and incredible texture. Chemically they are Protein fibres. They obtained from the cocoon of larvae of silk moths. Rearing of silk worm is known as Sericulture. These fibres are highly demanded and used for making textile.

In general, animal fibres consists different types of proteins. Most common animal fibres are wool and silk.

Fibres obtained from animals are textile. These fibres are produced from the animal’s hair, skin, fur or even secretion example silkworm. Once these animal fibres are extracted from animals. They are knitted or woven for forming beautiful animal fabrics to use them to make clothes.

These animal fibres have been employed for manufacturing warm and soft jackets, ponchos, shawls, blazers, coats and several other forms of clothes and accessories.

Wool:-

  • Wool is derived from animal furs, generally those animals which belong to the Caprinae family.
  • Wool can also be derived from animals such as rabbits, goats and alpacas. Various kinds of wool from different animals consists different properties from one another.
  • The difference between the hair of sheep and wool is that the hair of the sheep consists of scales which overlap in the same manner as the shingles on a roof.

Silk :-

  • Silk is described as a naturally occurring protein fiber. It can also be woven into textiles in several ways.
  • The silk form which is obtained from the larvae of Bombyx mori species, is the most common form of silk. Silk rearing is known as sericulture.
  • The degummed fibres are obtained from Bombyx mori. They have a diameter which ranges from 5 - 10 m.
  • Some forms of silk have shiny appearance because of the triangular prism-like and cross-sectional structure of these fibres.
