Diaphragm and intercostal muscles are the muscles which help in inspiration of air. During inspiration the diaphragm contracts pulling the floor of thoracic cavity inferiorly. By doing this it creates a vaccum which can be used to fill the inhaled air. The intercostal muscles elevates lungs during inspiration, thus helps the inhaled air get inside the lungs.
