The two organisations of Mahajanapadas were monarchies and republics.   These organisations existed during the later vedic period and was located at the north of Vindhyas.   Monarchies originated from the Gangetic plains and Republics started from the foothills of Himalayas which can be understood from Buddhist literature.   The entire territory was divided into 16 states called as Sodasha Mahajanapadas.

Monarchies and Republics are the organisations of Mahajanapadas

EXPLANATION:

  • In the Post-Vedic period, 16 states named Sodasha Mahajanapadas were divided into the entire northern area, mainly northeast of Vindhyas, extending from the north-west border to Bihar.
  • The Mahajanapadas were either monarchical or republican. While the Monarchies were centered in the Gangetic Plains, the Republics spread from north to south to modern Punjab, from the edge of the Himalayas, to Northwest India.
