Cholas and Pandyas were the two political powers which developed in Southern India in the post Gupta Period.
The Post- Gupta period was an age of regional kingdoms both in North as well as in the South. Cholas and Pandyas were two such regional kingdoms in South.
There is mention of these kindoms in Sangam literature but after the Post -Gupta period they developed as great political powers.
The Pandayas ruled over the region consisting of modern-day Southern Tamil Nadu and their capital was at Madurai while as Cholas ruled over the area consisting of modern-day northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh and their capital was at Puhar, modern Kaveripattnam.
